Qualify is a Learning Management System (LMS) that helps corporations stay compliant with current health and safety regulations in Canada.

Through the web application, managers can track their employees’ credentials, and provide them with training. Individuals can complete training courses independently and send certificates to potential employers.

Project Overview and Highlights

Building a new and improved LMS

Separate LMS for scalability, and improve usability

The current LMS system no longer aligns with Worksites long term roadmap. Integration with the current eCommerce site limits scalability. The current version of the LMS lacks usability and visual identity. Research shows that in order to truly help our users and clients we need to provide tools that support their health and safety goals, and provide evidence that it is worthy investment.

Differentiate between account types/views

The current LMS includes all account types in the side navigation (Student, Manager, Administrator) which confuses users. We need to separate and hide these based on account type and permission levels dictated by the account Administrator.

Pain points and mapping

Research

Pain Points & evaluation

The overall lack of onboarding and help resources leave users stuck and frustrated.

  1. The customer service team spends most of its time onboarding and setting up accounts.
  2. The side navigation menu was also one of the main causes of confusion among customers. The management and individual features are all part of the same menu, with no differentiation

What safety professionals are seeing, doing, saying, hearing, and feeling

"A safety culture is non existent until it is challenged by production needs, deadlines, budget and/or the ole, "the way we've always done it!"

"Bosses that don't get "it". Its not about good reports, bonuses or pats on the back…its about changing the culture of the workforce and savings life and limb."

Safety professionals are passionate and hungry for tools that provide insight, and insights that prove safety culture is essential for all businesses.

Competitor analysis

  1. In conjunction with our other research methods, we were able to gain insight into what the industry is currently doing, where it is headed, and who our main competitors will be when we move in that direction.

Findings

- Monthly subscription model

- Focus on injury prevention

- Wide variety of courses

- Differences in price points

- Clear calls to action

- Clear value messaging

- Corporate Marketing

- French, and Spanish options

- Not all offer consulting and classroom training

- Subcontractor management

- Focus on environmental factors

- EHS & LMS systems

Value proposition

  1. Admin roles need to be focused on higher-level compliance involving management and contractors, reports, maintaining records for meetings/audits/inspections, and budget tracking.

Management roles need to be able to ensure productivity, safe work practices, training, communication, and production needs.

Design System

What we did

  1. - Created a scalable product that is no longer tied to the company itself.
  2. - Increased product value by adding and improving features.
  3. - Improved usability, trustworthiness, and architecture.
  4. - Rethought the way students and managers track and complete their training.
  5. - Added support and features for instructor led training.
